A student film she completed with her husband Aleksandr Muratov, whom she would divorce shortly after. The film U KRUTOGO JARA / ON THE STEEP CLIFF (1962) tells the story of a peasant who tames wild nature in the form of wolves. Civilization was viewed as an instrument for humanizing nature, as a way of placing nature in the service of human progress. At the beginning of the 1960s, however, people saw this collision in a somewhat different light – nature was confronted not with a mass of human beings transformed into robots but with one human individual living in harmony with himself.
